Enzo Maccarinelli to fight Roy Jones Jr in Russia on December 12
Enzo Maccarinelli (40-7, 32 KOs) will fight former four-weight world champion Roy Jones Jr (62-8, 45 KOs) on December 12 at the VTB Ice Palace in Moscow, Russia.
Former WBO cruiserweight champion Maccarinelli has been fighting at light heavyweight for the last few years and challenged WBA champion Juergen Braehmer in Germany in April 2014, only to lose by fifth round stoppage due to a damaged right eye after a clash of heads in the opening round.
Now the 35-year-old Welshman will take on American ring legend Jones, who has recently been granted Russian citizenship by president Vladimir Putin, in a cruiserweight contest.
The 46-year-old Jones aims to become the first fighter to win a world title in every division from middleweight to heavyweight, although there is no confirmation this bout will be for a world title.
Maccarinelli said: "Jones was a great great fighter, certainly the best of his era and a fighter that I admired, but that has to be put to one side as I have my job to do and that's to knock him out.
"It's incredible how the Russian people have taken to Jones, he's like a superstar here, with the media following his every move, it takes the pressure off me because I'm seen as just an opponent for him, but I'm going to pull off a huge shock over here on December 12."
