Gennady Golovkin vs Daniel Jacobs set for March 18
WBA (super)/IBF/WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) will fight American Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) on March 18 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Both fighters are coming off knockout wins, one day apart in September. Jacobs knocked out former light middleweight world champion Sergio Mora in the seventh round, while the Kazakh fighter stopped IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook in the fifth round.
Golovkin has made 17 title defences and stopped his last 23 opponents.
Jacobs, who has been the 'regular' WBA champion since his fifth round knockout win over Jarrod Fletcher in August 2014, will be a massive underdog but in theory is Golovkin's toughest challenge to date.
Since his only career loss against Dimitry Pirog by fifth round KO in 2010, Jacobs has won 12 straight fights, all of them have come by way of stoppage.
Although the fight most boxing fans want to see is Golovkin against WBO light middleweight champion Saul Alvarez, Golovkin-Jacobs is a good middleweight match-up between the number 1 and number 2 in the division.
