Lee Selby vs Jonathan Victor Barros called off
Lee Selby's IBF featherweight title defence against Jonathan Victor Barros has been called off.
The Welshman's third title defence was due to take place on the undercard of Northern Irishman Carl Frampton's WBA featherweight title bout with Mexico's Leo Santa Cruz this Saturday at the MGM Grand. But the bout was canceled before Friday's weigh-in because the Nevada State Athletic Commission declined to license Argentine challenger Barros.
It has been reported that Barros' blood test came back positive for hepatitis.
"I'm terribly sorry and I'm almost in tears, all the hard work I put in with my team, my trainer, my management," said Selby.
"I'm very appreciative to my fans for travelling over here to watch me fight.
"This was my big stage, my chance to shine. But trust me, I will be back. I will come again."
Despite the cancellation of his fight against Barros, Selby is still hoping for a huge title unification fight with the winner of Frampton-Santa Cruz.
"Hopefully I can get straight back in the mix, get a quick win under my belt," said Selby.
"Then I would like to challenge the winner of Frampton-Santa Cruz."
