Maccarinelli demolishes Jones Jr by 4th round KO
Former WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli (41-7, 33 KOs) scored a 4th round knockout over ring legend Roy Jones Jr (62-9, 45 KOs) on Saturday night at the VTB Arena in Moscow, Russia.
The Welshman went on the attack from the start, backing up Jones and unloading body and head shots in each round of the non-title cruiserweight bout.
The American landed punches off the ropes now and again, but the heavier blows came from Macccarinelli.
In the 4th, a big uppercut floored Jones and although the former pound-for-pound king got up, he did not recover.
Maccarinelli connected with another uppercut followed by a right hook which sent Jones crashing face first to the canvas and the fight was then halted at 1:59 of the round.
The 46-year-old Jones, who recently become a Russian citizen, has held world titles from middleweight to heavyweight and had won his last 8 fights. But following this defeat, he may doubt whether he should continue his 71-fight career.
Maccarinelli, 35, has now scored 3 knockouts in a row and is aiming to become a world champion for the second time.
