Miguel Vazquez-Ammeth Diaz off
IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez (33-3) was scheduled to defend his title against Panama's Ammeth Diaz (32-11) on Saturday in Tijuana, but the fight was canceled because Diaz refused to travel to Mexico.
After losing to Vazquez 20 months ago, Diaz seemed motivated to step in the ring again with the Mexican for the IBF strap. However, Diaz opted to stay at home because he wasn't happy with the purse.
Diaz became the number one contender to face Vazquez when he stopped Martin Gethin (24-4-1) in a IBF lightweight title eliminator in Walsall in May.
Zanfer Promotions will look for another ranked fighter to challenge Vazquez before the end of the year. Top contender Terrence Crawford (22-0), is out of the picture because he is being lined up to face WBO title holder Scotland's Ricky Burns (36-2-1).
