Nick Blackwell in induced coma after defeat to Chris Eubank Jr
Nick Blackwell has been placed in a medically induced coma following his loss to Chris Eubank Jr on Saturday night at Wembley Arena.
Blackwell, 25, lost his British middleweight title when referee Victor Loughlin halted the bout in the 10th round on the advice of the ringside doctor due to swelling over his left eye. He left the ring on a stretcher and was taken to hospital.
"It is our understanding that Nick has a bleed on the brain and is under observation by hospital staff," said British Boxing Board of Control general secretary Robert Smith. "He's in intensive care, he's in an induced coma and he is resting and being looked after by the experts.
"It's a very normal procedure. They put you in a coma to get the swelling to go down. There's no time-scale. Now it's just a matter of waiting and seeing."
