John-Hosono ends in technical draw
WBA featherweight champion Chris John (48-0-3) of Indonesia fought Japan's challenger Satoshi Hosono (23-2-1) to a third round technical draw on Sunday at the Bung Karno Stadium Jakarta, Indonesia.
It was John's 18th defence of the title and he seemed in control of the bout when the two collided heads in round three. The fight was briefly stopped so the ringside doctor could examine huge cuts over John's right eye and forehead. The fight was allowed to resume, though only for a short while as it became clear there was too much blood coming from the champion's cuts and referee Rafael Ramos stopped the contest.
On the undercard, South African featherweight Simpiwe Vetyeka (25-2) stopped Daud Cino Yordan (30-3) of Indonesia by TKO in the 12th round, Yordan was ahead on the scorecards at the time of the stoppage.
