Huck-Afolabi 3 on June 8
After promotional shenanigans, the highly anticipated rubber match between Marco Huck (35-2-1) and Ola Afolabi (19-2-4) will take place on June 8 at the Max Schmeling Halle, Berlin.
The last time this pair rematched almost almost a year ago, it turned into a full-on tear up. Afolabi managed to improve on their first meeting (a close and controversial points loss in December 2009) fighting to a draw in a thrilling see-saw encounter which became a firm fight of the year candidate.
Afolabi was in control in the first 5 rounds before brutal, bludgeoning end of round attacks started to turn the fight around for the Germany based Kosovan.
A breathtaking last round saw both fighters trading full on blows with little regard for defence.
The Streatham-born fighter remained Huck's mandatory, and the WBO ordered purse bids after Sauerland (for Huck) and K2 (for Afolabi) couldn't reach an agreement. Veteran promoter Don King won the bid, however unable to secure a TV deal, King defaulted, leaving second-placed bidder Sauerland with the rights to the fight.
Huck said "Ola Afolabi is a tough nut to crack. However, he won't be causing me that much trouble again. I will prove who is the best in Berlin."
