Purdy fails to make weight
Lee Purdy (20-3-1) has failed to make the 147 lbs limit for his world title fight on Saturday night with IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1) in Atlantic City.
At the weigh-in, Purdy was 1lb over at 148, and given two hours to shift the excess , which he couldn't, weighing 147.8lbs. Alexander came in at 146.7lbs.
The fight will still go ahead, should Purdy win, he will become the mandatory challenger, If Alexander wins, the fight will count as his first defence of the title he won in October defeating Randall Bailey and will also satisfy his mandatory obligation.
Purdy will now forfeit ten per cent of his $150.000 purse, half goes to Alexander and half to the New Jersey Commission.
