Marcos Maidana (34-3) had some tough moments but rallied to stop  Josesito Lopez (30-6) in the sixth round of a war on Saturday night at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California.

It didn't take long before both sluggers was trading hard punches. In the 2nd round, Maidana stunned Lopez with a right hand but Lopez managed to fight his way out of danger, though Maidana landed several more shots before the round was over.

Lopez came back strong in the 3rd, where he hurt Maidana with several hard shots. In the 4th, Lopez continued to drill Maidana with hard shots to the head and body, stunning the Argentine boxer. At one point it looked like Lopez had knocked Maidana down but the referee ruled it a slip. Maidana was kind of pushed down but he was definately hurt at the time.

In the 5th, it was Maidana who came roaring back as he punished Lopez with uppercuts and hard body shots. Then in the final minute of the round multiple combinations pinned Lopez against the ropes.

In the 6th, Lopez was hurt by a right to the body followed by a right to the head that dropped him to his kneees. After Lopez got back up, Maidana pinned him against the ropes and unloaded on him with multiple hard shots to force the referee to step in and wave off the contest.

In the co-feature bout, Erislandy Lara (18-1-2) got off the deck twice to stop Alfredo Angulo (22-3) in the 10th round to capture the interim WBA light middleweight title.

Angulo came charging forward in the opening round and Lara did well with hard counters. Lara was doing well picking Angulo off until the 4th round, when Angulo caught the Cuban boxer with a huge left that sent him crashing. Lara was hurt and was using every bit of his defensive skills to make it out of the round.

Angulo started to take over the fight in the 5th, with his come-forward style and constant punching to the body of Lara. However, Lara was still doing well with his defence and counter work though unable to push Angulo back and stop his incoming charge.

During the 9th, Lara was clipped hard and dropped for the second time in the fight but again used his defensive skills to get out of the round.

Lara landed a hard combination of punches that caught Angulo on his left eye in the 10th round, breaking his Orbital bone - and the Mexican slugger was now in alot of pain which resulted in him turning his back to walk to his corner in the middle of the action - and at that point the referee waved off the fight.
