Burns to defend against Mexican Beltran on September 7
WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2) will defend his title against Mexican Raymundo Beltran (28-6) on September 7. The venue will be Glasgow's SECC.
Beltran, 31, has been fighting at a decent level having lost a tight decision against the tough Ugandan Sharif Bogere, then winning a close matchup against Hank Lundy. He is a former sparring partner of Manny Pacquiao and is trained by Freddie Roach.
Burns, 30, came through a tough defence against Puerto Rican Jose Gonzalez in his last outing on May 11 in Glasgow, when Gonzalez quit on his stool after the 9th round, when he was leading 87-84 on all three cards at the time.
