Broner vs Malignaggi could be on
WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (26-0) looks set to fight WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4) either in Abu Dhabi on May 18 or at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on June 22.
Broner will be moving up two weight divisions to make the fight however it would be tougher say a first fight at welterweight against someone like Manny Pacquiao, Timothy Bradley or Devon Alexander.
Those would be difficult match-ups for Broner given the big weight increase going from fighting guys at mid 130 lbs to fighting guys at 147 lbs and some will be fighting in the 160s by the time he enters the ring against them.
Malignaggi isn't one of those types of fighters that rehydrates way up in weight, but still bigger then the guys that Broner has been fighting.
Malignaggi said "I just don't see him has a welterweight, I think he is talented, but I also think his team his biting off more then he can chew. We've heard from that entire side wanting the fight, except Broner himself. I think that say's something. Weight classes exist for a reason.
I can't see how I can lose it."
