Russian challenger Grigory Drozd (39-1, 27 KOs) defeated Krzysztof “Diablo” Wlodarczyk (49-3-1, 35 KOs), of Poland, by 12 round unanimous decision to claim the WBC cruiserweight title on Saturday night at Dynamo Palace of Sports in Moscow, Russia.

In his first career title fight, Drozd outworked and clinched his way to victory, winning by scores of 118-108, 119-108 and 119-108.
After Drozd knocked Wlodarczyk down in the eighth, the champion attempted to rally in the last 4 rounds, but Wlodarczyk was unable to seize victory from the clutches of defeat as he has done many times previously.
Wlodarczyk had successfully defended the belt six times since taking it from Giacobbe Fragomeni in May 2010.
Drozd remained unbeaten in his last 14 bouts.
Also on the card, WBA cruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev (39-1, 27 KOs) of Russia, knocked out Poland's Pawel Kolodziej (33-1, 18 KOs).
When Lebedev floored Kolodziej with a left in the second round, Kolodziej was too hurt to continue and the fight was stopped.
It was Lebedev's first fight since May 2013. He was scheduled to fight Panama's Guillermo Jones in a rematch in April but  Jones failed a drug test and the fight was called off. Jones beat Lebedev for the belt last year, only to test positive for a banned substance on that occasion, too.
