Heavyweight king Klitschko hammers outclassed Leapai
IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko knocked out Alex Leapai of Australia in the 5th round on Saturday night at the Koenig Pilsener Arena, Oberhausen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany.
He was in complete control of his 25th world title fight as he knocked-out Leapai at two minutes, five seconds of the 5th round.
'Dr Steel Hammer' - taller with a longer reach, toyed with Leapai, controlling the fight at will, scoring with left jabs and straight rights with hardly any opposition from his younger challenger.
Wladimir put Leapai down in the 1st round, a nice right hand to the head put the heavy-bodied Leapai down in a heap on the canvas. Leapai got up and continued to take jabs and straight hands to the head.
Leapai, a delivery truck driver, went down again when he was hit with a left-right combination in the 5th. He got up but three-time world champion Klitschko put him away for good with 58 seconds left in the round with a lethal combination.
"It wasn't easy, my head was in Ukraine and what is going on there. I hope there is no war and people dying. I am proud of my people," Klitschko said.
It was his 53rd KO in 62 wins, with three defeats. Leapai dropped to 30-5, with three draws.
