Jamie McDonnell to face new opponent Chacon
WBA Bantamweight champion Jamie McDonnell (24-2-1, 11 KOs) will face new challenger Javier Chacon (20-2, 5 KOs) on Saturday night at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on the undercard of the Nathan Cleverly-Tony Bellew rematch.
McDonnell, 28, was due to defend his title against Walberto Ramos (23-6-2, 16 KOs), however, Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn announced that Ramos was dropped from the fight due to complications getting a visa.
McDonnell won the vacant WBA belt when stopping Thailand's Tabtimdaeng Na Rachawat in May and will be making his first defence against Chacon.
Argentine fighter Chacon is getting his second shot at a world title. In March, he traveled to Panama and lost a unanimous decision to then champion Anselmo Moreno.
The 33-year-old stands between Doncaster's McDonnell and a unification fight with Japan's WBO champ Tomoki Kameda early next year.
Kameda did his part to keep the fight on track by retaining his belt via split decision against mandatory challenger Alejandro Hernandez on November 1.
