Mike Alvarado-Ruslan Provodnikov to fight on October 19
Mike Alvarado (34-1) is set to go to war with Ruslan Provodnikov (22-2) on October 19 at the First Bank Center in Denver.
This gives Alvarado a home field advantage in his first defence of the WBO light welterweight title against the dangerous Russian.
The fight, which will be fought at 140 lbs, is set up nicely with Alvarado coming off a career-best win, over Brandon Rios by decision in a terrific rematch to take the WBO strap in March, while Provodnikov took part in arguably the only better fight of 2013, his dramatic and brutal points loss at welterweight to Timothy Bradley earlier in the same month.
Will Alvarado go from such a big win to defeat in his hometown or is he on another level from Provodnikov?
While this fight doesn't enter into a "marquee fight" that Mayweather and Alvarez does in September, Alvarado and Provodnikov guarantees some great action and jaw dropping exchanges whereas the former doesn't.
