Mikey Garcia vacates WBO title, Orlando Salido becomes new champion
Mikey Garcia (34-0, 28 KOs) has vacated his WBO super featherweight title.
The WBO has now made Orlando Salido (42-12-2, 29 KOs) the new champion.
Garcia, 26, won the belt by eighth-round knockout of Roman "Rocky" Martinez in November 2013. But he has not fought since he outpointed Juan Carlos Burgos in his only defence in January because of a dispute with promoter Top Rank.
Two weight world champion Garcia, who defeated Salido by an eighth-round technical decision to take his WBO featherweight title in January 2013, was set to face Salido, who defeated Terdsak Kokietgym by an 11th-round knockout for the interim belt in September, in a rematch.
However, Garcia is facing problems getting down to 130 pounds and choose to vacate the belt.
When Garcia eventually returns to the ring he plans to completely skip the lightweight division and fight at the 140-pound light welterweight division.
