Guillermo Rigondeaux (15-0, 10 KOs) will return to the ring against Mexican fighter Mario Briones (26-4-2, 19 KOs) on December 4 at EY Centre, Ottawa, Ontario in Canada.

The two-time Cuban Olympic gold medalist was stripped of his WBO title and the WBA have downgraded him to “Champion in recess” for inactivity. He has not fought since last December, where he was knocked down twice in the 7th round by Japan's Hisashi Amagasa before claiming a 11th-round stoppage victory.

Rigondeaux returns against weak opposition but will be aiming to regain the titles in 2016.

The WBA have ordered Rigondeaux to face the winner of the unification fight on February 27 between WBA 'regular' champion Scott Quigg and IBF titlist Carl Frampton.

Rigondeaux also has the option of fighting in a WBC final eliminator against unbeaten contender Rey Vargas. The winner will get a shot at the WBC title.

Mexco's Julio Ceja defends the WBC belt against countryman Hugo Ruiz on March 26 in a rematch. Ceja rallied from a third round knockdown to stop Ruiz in the fifth to win the interim title in August.

Three-weight world champion Leo Santa Cruz recently vacated the WBC 122 pound belt to move up to featherweight, and Ceja was elevated to world champion.
