Rubio fails to make weight for title fight against Golovkin
Marco Antonio Rubio (59-6-1, 51 KOs) failed to make the weight at Friday's weigh in for his title fight against WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27 KOs) on Saturday night at the sold out StubHub Center in Carson, California.
Golovkin weighed in at 159 pounds, but Rubio weighed in at 161.8. The fight is still on but Rubio won't be able to win the WBA 160 pound belt, and also gives up his WBC interim title, which Golovkin can still win. If Golovkin loses, however, his world title will be vacated.
Golovkin will be seeking his 18th consecutive knockout and will be making the 12th defence of his world title.
Also on the card, world featherweight champion Nonito Donaire (33-2, 21 KOs) defends his WBA 126 pound belt against Nicholas Walters (24-0, 20 KOs). Both weighed in at 125.6 pounds.
