Smtih stops Boschiero to set up world title shot
British super featherweight contender Stephen Smith (23-1, 13 KOs) stopped former world title challenger Devis Boschiero (37-4-1, 19 KOs) in the 6th round in an IBF eliminator on Saturday night at the Olympia in Liverpool.
Smith knocked Boschiero down five times in the fight. He dropped the Italian twice in the second round, once in the 4th and twice in the 6th.
A right hook in the second round sent Boschiero to the canvas, and he was put down again from the follow up punches.
By the fourth, the visitor's right eye was swollen shut and he went down on one knee following a barrage of punches from Smith.
Smith scored two knockdowns in the 6th with left hand body shots to get the stoppage.
With the win, Smith earned a shot at the IBF super featherweight title. He will challenge the winner of the world title bout between champion Jose Pedraza and challenger Edner Cherry, who fight on October 3.
