Golovkin vs Macklin confirmed for June 29 in Connecticut
WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin's next defence against Matthew Macklin has been confirmed for June 29 at the MGM Grand Theatre in Foxwoods Resort Casino, Mashantucket, Connecticut.
The world title fight will be promoted by K2 Promotions and DiBella Entertainment.
Promoter Lou DiBella said "Golovkin-Macklin is one of the best middleweight fights that can be made in the middleweight division and all of boxing. It figures to be a barnburner and we are thrilled Matthew is getting another deserved opportunity at a world title."
Germany based Kazakh Golovkin (26-0) is a fearsome puncher with 23 knockouts, none of his opponents yet to get past 10 rounds.
Macklin (29-4) was competitive against middleweight maestro Serigio Martinez, scoring a knockdown in the 7th, before retiring after 11 rounds in March last year. He stopped Joachim Alcine inside a round in September in his last outing.
