Purdy will challenge Alexander for IBF title on May 18
Lee Purdy will be replacing injured Kell Brook as the opponent for IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander on May 18 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA.
Purdy (20-3-1) who is ranked number 4 by the IBF gets the opportunity to fight for the title because Brook injured his foot and had to pull out of the fight with Alexander (24-1). Sadly this was Brook's second time that he pulled out of a fight with Alexander due to injury.
Alexander had a good year in 2012, beating Marcos Maidana and former IBF welterweight champion Randell Bailey. Alexander was simply too good for both of these guys.
Purdy stopped Mexican journeyman Cosme Rivera in 9 rounds in his last outing in March so this will be huge step up in class for the challenger.
