Golovkin crushes Macklin in three
WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (27-0) demolished Matthew Macklin (24-5) in three rounds on Saturday night at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods Resort, Connecticut.
Golovkin was breathtakingly dominant in his 8th world title defence against the Birmingham based Irishman, droping him in the 3rd round with a sickening left hook to the liver that ended proceedings early.
The Kazakh was on the front foot from the first bell as he pushed Macklin back with every punch. Golovkin opened a cut over Macklin's right eye in the second round, forcing the challenger to attack from the start of the 3rd, throwing punches with both hands, but Macklin's aggression got him nowhere, and he was pushed onto the ropes before Golovkin unloaded a left hook to the body dropping Macklin at 1:22 of the round for the full count to secure his 14th straight stoppage.
