Terry Flanagan vs Diego Magdaleno and Liam Smith vs Michel Soro on Lee-Saunders card
WBO lightweight champion Terry Flanagan (28-0, 11 KOs) defends his title against Diego Magdaleno (28-1, 12 KOs), and Liam Smith (20-0-1, 10 KOs) will face Michel Soro (27-1-1, 17 KOs) for the vacant WBO light middleweight title on the Andy Lee-Billy Joe Saunders undercard on October 10 at the Manchester Arena in Manchester.
Flanagan will be making his first defence against American Magdanelo, who lost his previous world title attempt against Puerto Rican Roman Martinez by a split decision at super featherweight in April 2013.
The Manchester man won the belt against Jose Zepeda, after his American opponent sustained a dislocation to his left shoulder and was unable to continue beyond the second round.
Also in addition to the main event between Ireland’s WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee and Britain's unbeaten challenger Billy Joe Saunders, former British and Commonwealth champion Smith, who aims to become the first world champion in his family of professional fighters, takes on Frenchman Soro for the WBO title that was stripped from American Demetrius Andrade for inactivity.
Ivory Coast-born Soro, now residing in France, previously challenged for the same belt in 2012, losing on points to Zaurbek Baysangurov, but he has not lost since and has knocked out his last four opponents.
Smith's older brother Paul lost two competitive decisions to WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham, while his other siblings, Callum and Stephen, are also closing in on world title shots.
